BEYOND THE FRAME (SDN2001)
Within this studio, I investigate components of various interior and outdoor environments. By subsequently integrating synthetic ingredients with the indigenous elements present in the space, the objective of altering and sublimating the space's atmosphere is accomplished.
PHASE 01
The beginning of the project I am collect the elements of the existing atmosphere of the site through site visiting.I’m using the methodology from the phase 1 and put it into use to the chosen site of phase 2 than to do the experiment. By this point, I’d like to explain the methodology I’m using. By compare the elements from the site, I can choose a series of material and test it out see if it will fit with the site.
In the experimental part I find that; many hidden elements become dominant when entering the third person to observe the site. The installation can help the audience complete the transition from the first person to the third person and, at the same time, turn the audience into an element of the site atmosphere.
PHASE 02
During the researching part, I was engaged with different elements from the site, such as Air Flow, Lightning, Cloud and Microclimate. I am using dry ice and shade to experiment the Air Flow. Using dry ice, shade and glass to define Lightning. Using Glass again to shows the cloud, and using wooden frame and LED to explored the Microclimate. Then, I converted the dry ice material from the first phase into the shade to highlight the airflow element. To continue emphasizing the light element, I kept the LED light strip and added several large pieces of glass to highlight the light aspect through reflection.
At first, the installation is located at the pedestrian. The most imported identity is the frame, that can be seen in the 1to 50 section. This is a 3 by 6 miters frame. Then let’s check the 1 to 50 elevation to see the shade attached to the both side of the frame. Secondly, we can pay attention to the glass roof, which is made of 4 pieces of glasses, and each glass has 40-degree intersection. As we can see in the 1 to 20 detail plan. It shows the connection structure of the glasses. The connection technique I'm using is traditional Chinese mortise and tenon structure. Following up to the 1 to 10 detail section, we have the LED light stripe attach to the middle of the wooden frame.
Throughout the project, I explored the flow of wind, the paten of sunlight, the construction of microclimate, and the role, and meaning of human existence in the natural environment. Wood, glass, cloth shade and LED lights were used to form this installation. The significance of this installation is to let people find different atmospheres in a tedious environment and capture the beauty of nature. So, through this project, I want people to get away from the noisy urban environment and appreciate nature again.
